In the name of Creator of beauties
My name is Ali Asghar Mortezaee. I was born in 1967 in Iran. I
educated in my hometown_Hamedan_ and then finished my graduation in the field of
English literature in Shiraz University in 1991.Gazing at wood carvers' works,
as a young boy, I often thought of innovating something new to reflect my sense
of beauties, feelings, interests, and believes. Eventually the idea of creating
Quranic tableaux out of wood came to my mind. As you may have noticed one of the
manifestations of beauty that sometimes is very fascinating and charming is the
design and decoration of wood. This, along with the fact that the tenderness of
flowers and leaves; the falling and raising of stems are appeared in the most
beautiful style of Persian calligraphy (Nastaligh) formed the motive to combine
four arts of calligraphy, wood carving, illumination, reticulation; and
associate Quranic verses with Arabesque. These are the main arts which have been
used in carpet weaving, plaster moulding, stonecutting, furniture, metalworking,
ceramics, glass and glass wares, cloth-weaving, etc from the old ages till now.
In the present collection which is the result of 7 years of hard task, I made my
best to choose the most beautiful calligraphies of the great and famous Iranian
calligraphers such as Mr. Gholam Hossein Amirkhani, Mr. Yadollah Kaboli Kansari,
Mr. Jalil Rasuli, Mr. Hashem Baghdadi, and late Mr. Mohammad Ali Atar Heravi. In
addition to the perfect styles, varieties, and the eye pleasing calligraphies,
the most outstanding and unique aspect in my works is that in each tableau form
the frame to Arabesque and from Arabesque to every letter are carved just from
one single wooden plank. That is, no part is stuck to the others.
At the end, I would like to express my gratitude to the above mentioned
calligraphers and those dear ones who helped me .
